Motocross Stunt Racer Takes the Checkered Flag

One of my favorite genres of arcade games has always been racing. I've never been great at them, but I still find them fun, entertaining, and challenging. Unfortunately many of the racing games that I've found for the Pocket PC seem to be lacking. Many of them feel awkward to play, and other times they just lack the excitement that I've come to expect from a great racing title. One of the newest racing games that I've got my hands on is Motocross Stunt Racer by Digital Concepts. Does the game make it to victory lane, or does it fade at the finish? Read the complete review to find out.

Customization
As I mentioned above, one of the biggest drawbacks to many of the racing games on the Pocket PC is that paying the games oftentimes feels awkward. Motocross Stunt Racer avoids some of the awkwardness by allowing the screen to be rotated. The screen can be rotated in any of four positions (very helpful for left-handed users). In addition to the screen rotation the buttons can be assigned to different options. This is especially important to me because I'm currently using a Pocket PC Phone Edition device which has a more limited. Another nice feature is that the game allows the user to control the movement of the bike via the stylus or the D-pad. If you prefer to use the D-pad use it, but if you're like me and prefer to use the stylus that option you have that choice as well. A nice feature is that you can switch between input options in the middle of the game. You can be using the stylus and immediately switch to using the D-pad without any re-configuring.

Additional customization comes by way of altering your racer's suit color and the color of your bike. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is a nice little touch that adds personality and increases the overall appeal of the game.

Game play
Motocross Stunt Racer has three different race types. The first is the traditional race, the second option is to do a stunt course, and the last option is a free ride.

Selecting 'Racing' from the main screen will take you into the traditional race mode of the game. In this version of the game you race computer bikes on a variety of different courses. Points are awarded for placement in the race and for the time it takes to complete each race. As you accumulate points you unlock new tracks and you move up in rank. Races increase in difficulty as you move up. Some of the earlier races are fairly easy to win, but the more advanced races take some work.
